Renan Santos
Renan Santos lives in São Paulo and works with digital illustration.Bio
Renan Santos is a self-taught Brazilian illustrator who began his career studying architecture before discovering his true passion for fine art. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century artists like Gustave Doré, J.J. Grandville, and Edmund Dulac, among others, he specializes in three techniques: pen and ink, printmaking, and oil painting. His portfolio includes illustrations for children’s books, large format panels, street art, and fabric prints, boasting international exhibitions at Hatos Gallery in Tokyo, Hellion Gallery in Portland, and Artistik Rezo Gallery in Paris.
“I try to revive in form and technique those old drawings made by etching copper plates to be manually printed – keeping the ‘hand-made’ alive. At first, I was particularly interested in small-scale drawings crafted with a magnifying glass. Currently, I enjoy large-scale painting. Getting out of my atelier to work on a wall in the streets has been very rewarding.”
